The women’s team defeated the Meduni Vienna Serpents 60:46 in their first home game in Linz last week and clinched the first win in the team’s history. They were cheered on by numerous students who made their own fan posters.
The Astros men also got a respectable success: After a brave fight, they had to admit defeat to the Serpents men with 42:52.
The new basketball team is the result of cooperation with the “Austrian College Sports League”. The company has already founded several sports teams based on the American model at Vienna universities, the JKU Astros are the first team outside of the federal capital. In addition to a basketball team, a football team and a cheerleader team are also to be founded in the future.
