Bottlenecks: Ford stops Fiesta production in Cologne until the end of October

The semiconductor bottlenecks on the world market cause inconsistencies in production. Ford is now extending the production stop for the Fiesta model. The car manufacturer Opel is also drawing conclusions.

The car manufacturer Ford has to extend the production stop for the Fiesta model in its Cologne plant due to semiconductor bottlenecks. Ford has to suspend production until October 31, said a company spokesman. RTLWest had previously reported.

The availability of semiconductors on the world market will remain very volatile for the foreseeable future. Therefore, Ford is assuming “that there may be production stoppages again and again in the foreseeable future,” said the spokesman. Around 5,000 people work in the Fiesta production facility in Cologne, and around 15,000 people work for Ford in the cathedral city.

The car manufacturer Opel had announced that it would shut down its plant in Eisenach from next week until the end of the year due to delivery bottlenecks for important components. According to a company spokesman, 1,300 employees are affected.
