Gastronomy: Dehoga: Christmas and New Year’s business is restrained

According to a survey of more than 2,800 companies, the industry is currently doing better than last year. According to the association, however, sales are far below those of the pre-corona period.

For restaurateurs and hoteliers, there are signs of better Christmas and New Year’s business than last year – but the industry says it is still a long way from the level it was before the Corona crisis. In an industry survey by the hotel and restaurant association Dehoga, around 60 percent of the companies surveyed said so, as the association announced on Monday.

The November sales alone, adjusted for price, were on average 8.5 percent below the sales of 2019, it said. In the entire period between January and November, sales fell by 8 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

Around a third of the companies described the booking situation for Christmas as “poor”. For at least two-thirds of those surveyed, it presents itself as “good” or “satisfactory”. For the survey, Dehoga interviewed more than 2800 companies nationwide between December 1st and 5th.
