The difficulty for companies to access foreign currency

Although the new Import System of the Argentine Republic (SIRA) that prioritizes the entry of medical supplies and medicines is underway, there are delays that are even registered by several companies.

One is the case of the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA), which sent a statement last week. “Many and serious difficulties persist for access to inputs, effective payment to foreign suppliers and lack of financing for the established deadlines”, they estimated.

“The members of the Board of Directors coincided in expressing their great concern and pointed out the negative impact that it is generating in the industrial sectors of the entire country, compromising the continuity of production processes,” continued the statement from the chamber that groups the industry .

“In addition, they highlighted the need for the new system already implemented to generate predictability, avoid all forms of discretion, as well as allow production planning for 2023,” he concluded.

They were joined by the authorities of the Association of Metallurgical Industrialists of the Argentine Republic (Adimra) They expressed their deep concern to the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, about the difficult context that companies in the sector are going through in order to access imported inputs that are not produced locally.

The president of Adimra, Orlando Castellani, stated that “In order to maintain activity levels and employability in the sector, it is extremely important to avoid using foreign currency to purchase metallurgical goods that are manufactured locally. The priority must be for the acquisition of non-produced inputs.”

During the meeting, the businessmen gave the minister a technical document detailing that more than 70% of the imports made by companies in the sector correspond to basic and intermediate inputs, electrical-electronic components and parts and pieces for the manufacture of goods. They are not made locally.

They also approached the minister and his team with joint work proposals to facilitate access to the foreign currency required by the sector.
