Energy presented increases of up to 54% for gas in 2023

In resolution 771/2022 that formalized the call, it was indicated that once the public discussion process was completed “the Ministry of Energy will dictate, if applicable, the administrative act that establishes the cost of natural gas to be transferred to users and the users.

The report tests “in a descriptive way, different gas price scenarios, in order to show the eventual impacts on bills for different representative users”.

The impact of the rate increase

For this case, a user of the R31 category (with an average monthly consumption of 92 cubic meters) in the North of Greater Buenos Aires, North and South of the country was taken as a model, with four different scenarios.

  • Scenario 1 maintains gas prices at the January 2023 rate throughout the year and, at the other extreme, scenario 4 increases the price in PIST for Level 1 users (greater purchasing power) up to the full price, that is, without subsidies by the national State, which implies an increase of 64.5% over the portion in charge of the State.
  • For Level 3, a percentage increase in the price in PIST is assumed for the non-subsidized block and the subsidized block in equal proportion to that of Level 1 users (+64.5%), while for Level 2 users half is considered of said variation (+32.3%).
  • The intermediate scenarios present a partial adequacy of 33% for scenario 2 and 66% for scenario 3 of that simulated in Scenario 4.
  • In the case of the R31 category in the North of Greater Buenos Aires, for a Level 1 user the average bill is $4,907 per month and the simulated scenarios imply increases of between $779 and $2,361.
  • for a user Level 2 the average bill is $2,621 and increases are between $146 and $443 per month.
  • for a user Level 3 the average invoice is $3,718 per month and simulated scenarios imply increases between $526 and $1,593.

In the North of Argentina, for a Level 1 user the average bill is $4,112 per month and the simulated scenarios imply increases between $664 and $2,013.

For a Level 2 user the average bill is $2,162 and the simulated scenarios imply increases between $125 and $378.

For a Level 3 user the average bill is $2,747 and the simulated scenarios imply increases between $374 and $1,133.

Finally, Energy presented the impacts for an average user of the R31 category in the south of the country.

For a Level 1 user the average bill is $6,989 per month and the simulated scenarios imply increases between $1,252 and $3,794while for a Level 2 user the average bill is $3,315 and the increases vary between $235 and $712.

The average bill for Tier 3 users is $5,924 per month and simulated scenarios imply increases between $845 and $2,561.
