Pampa will supply clean energy to Holcim plants in Argentina

With this amount of cement, it will be possible to build 206,000 homes (the construction of a typical family home -100 square meters- consumes approximately 12 tons of cement) and 3,300 kilometers of two-lane road.

Holcim has four cement plants located in the provinces of Córdoba, Mendoza, Jujuy and Buenos Aires. It also has fixed and mobile floors of elaborated concrete.

Sustainability

The signing of the agreement took place at the Pampa Energía headquarters in Buenos Aires with the presence of Christian Dedeu, CEO of Holcim in Argentina, and Gustavo Mariani, CEO of Pampa Energía.

“This initiative is a reflection of Holcim’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint in construction for a future of net zero emissions. This is driven by the use of alternative materials and innovation in our products, from alternative fuels to operational efficiency. Through these actions, we are taking firm steps in our 2025 strategy, forcefully accelerating sustainable growth” assured Christian Dedeu, CEO of Holcim in Argentina.

Through this contract, the emission of 24,000 t of CO2 per year will be avoided by replacing thermal energy with wind energy, the equivalent of the energy consumption of more than 1,400 houses in one year. The power supply will come from the expansion of the Pampa Energía III Wind Farm located in the Coronel Rosales district, which, once the works are completed, will have an installed capacity of 134.2 MW.

“We are proud that Holcim has chosen us for the next 10 years as its renewable energy provider in Argentina. The signing of this agreement is a clear demonstration of the commitment that both companies have with the environment and the commitment to an increasingly sustainable future”, stated Gustavo Mariani, CEO of Pampa Energía.

carbon neutrality

This action is part of the Climate and Energy pillar of Holcim’s Sustainable Development Plan, whose objective is to be Net Zero by 2050. The goals of said pillar were validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), showing its commitment to carbon neutrality.

With sustainability at the center of its strategy, Holcim is becoming a carbon neutral company, with the launch of sustainable products such as ECOPact green concrete, which is already being placed today in the great Aña Cuá project in Yacyretá and which involves less 30% of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. It recently presented ECOPlanet, the new line, the widest range of sustainable cements in the world with a reduction of at least 30% in carbon emissions during its production process with a performance equal to or greater than that of traditional cement.

The protagonists

Holcim Argentina is part of the Holcim group, a world leader in innovative and sustainable solutions for construction. It has been in the country for more than 90 years and has a staff of 1,000 people.

In the hydrocarbons sector, Pampa Energía is the sixth largest producer in the country and the third largest gas producer in the Neuquén basin. In addition, it is the first independent generator in the country with 4,970 MW of energy through nine thermal power plants, three hydroelectric power plants, and three wind farms.

It also produces a wide range of petrochemical products, being the main producers of polystyrene, styrene and rubber in Argentina.
