It was once the guarantor of prosperity – now the German auto industry is being thwarted by the USA and China. “Autopope” Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, director of the CAR Center Automotive Research in Duisburg, complains that German politicians are acting completely naively in this area of tension.
Professor Dudenhöffer, Corona, war, inflation: How will the German car industry look at the end of 2022?
In the crisis years, the car manufacturers have earned golden noses, in my opinion these are “windfall profits”, i.e. accidental excess profits from the crises. From next year it will be difficult for them again. Then the old, fierce competition comes back, with many battles over discounts and incentives. The days of their high margins are coming to an end. Things have been thin for suppliers over the past few years, but things are getting better for them.
