In 2015, the American oil company Exxon Mobile struck oil off the coast of Guyana. According to estimates by the International Monetary Fund at the time, the economy of the impoverished country with 800,000 inhabitants could grow by around 86 percent thanks to the reserves. The revenue could be around 10 billion euros by 2030.
