Customs disrupted grain smuggling to Bolivia

“This enormous blow to smuggling is a new example of Customs’ commitment to the transparency of international trade,” indicated the director of Customs, Guillermo Michel.

According to Michel, “this kind of exports, when they are carried out legally, are an important source of foreign currency for Argentina, of great value for our economy; we will continue working to dismantle the maneuvers of those who pursue their personal gain to the detriment of the rest of the Argentines”.

The procedure, ordered by the Federal Prosecutor of Tartagal, is the product of the complaints that Customs makes about illegal trade in grains through unauthorized passages in the north of our country.

The agency’s agents arrived jointly with the National Gendarmerie at four homes located on National Route 34, on the border with Bolivia, where they found a huge amount of grain packed in 50-kg bags, ready to cross the border illegally. .

The specialized agents of the General Directorate of Customs-AFIP seized around 21,500 bags containing soybeans, broken soybeans, corn, broken corn, ground corn and wheat for 1,075 tons.

Likewise, they also hijacked trucks loaded with grains that were waiting to be unloaded.

After the operation, the Tartagal Decentralized Prosecutor’s Office ordered the seizure of the goods and the means of transport involved, and the arrest of the people involved, who were placed at the disposal of Justice, Customs reported.
