The initiative, authored by Francisco ‘Paco’ Durañonaseeks to give the power to local governments to control compliance with price agreements and gondolasaccording to the Law of the rights of Users and Consumers.
“To ensure this, the concurrence and strengthening of local governments is necessary, which are the area closest to the citizenry. The actions we take in this regard will be really effective to the extent that they reach the places where people live and thus improve their quality of life,” said Durañona.
Framed in the National Law 27,642 on healthy eatingthe new legislation modifies Law 13,133 with the objective of guarantee the full access of the population to the products in the gondolas with fair prices.
“We reached the necessary agreements for this Law to come out and be one more tool that the province and the municipalities will have to deal with the concentration,” the legislator clarified.
The initiative proposes consolidate and strengthen local enforcement authorities and Municipal Consumer Information Offices (OMICs)incorporating them in each municipality.
“In addition to national laws and measures, now we can guarantee full access to food so that they are healthy and accessible in each of the 135 municipalities providing and strengthening municipal autonomy and being a great contribution to the Law for the Defense of Consumers,” said the legislator.
Also, The Law promoted by Senator Gabriela Demaría was approved who seeks to update the fines for those who do not comply with the rights of consumers.
“The ceiling would go from 500 thousand to 272 million pesoswith an automatic update rolling formula that will avoid its depreciation,” he reported.
The article 2 of the law establishes that “the Provincial Government must formulate strong consumer and user protection policies, within the constitutional framework of powers, and establish an adequate infrastructure that allows them to be applied”.
” The measurements of consumer protection should be applied for the benefit of all sectors of the population and accentuate with respect to hypervulnerable consumers who belong to social groups affected by causes of aggravated vulnerability, disadvantaged or disadvantaged, such as girls, boys and adolescents, older adults, sick or disabled people, among others, who are affected by circumstances that cause special difficulties to fully exercise their rights as consumers”, it adds.
In this way, the senator maintained that “it is a duty of the State to help the most disadvantaged social groups, implementing policies that meet their particular circumstances and needs.”
Finally, Durañona explained that both projects “are integrated creating extraordinary tools and vital both for the municipalities and for the functioning of the municipal offices and thus correctly defend the neighbors who live in our communities”.
