Oil and gas companies are now required to give part of their profits to the Treasury. The income of the electricity producers was also capped.

“We understand that something has to be done here when people and companies can no longer afford these high electricity costs,” says Strugl. When asked about the high prices (almost 50 cents per kilowatt hour for new customers with Verbund), Strugl says: “There is a range of electricity suppliers when it comes to prices. Verbund’s prices are in the middle of the range. We are not the cheapest, but we’re not the most expensive either.” According to Strugl, there is “relatively little leeway” when it comes to pricing.

In the interview, Strugl also spoke about investments in renewable energies.
