At the voestalpine site in Linz, a test facility “on an industrial scale” is to be built for a new process for the emission-free production of iron. The capacity of the plant should be three to five tons of pig iron per hour.
Primetals works with the “Hyfor” process, which uses hydrogen as a reducing agent. A smaller test project with voestalpine using this technology has been carried out at the Donawitz site since last year.
For voestalpine, the cooperation is “another way to achieve the goal of CO2-neutral steel production by 2050,” said Board Member Hubert Zajicek.
