UIA questioned the Government and condemned the attitude of contempt of the ruling
The Supreme Court ordered the national government to grant 2.95% of co-participating funds to the City from Buenos Aires. The national Government had cut the funds it gave to the City in 2020 after considering that the amounts that the district received were too high. The decision to increase them had been made by former President Mauricio Macri in compensation for the transfer of the Metropolitan Police to the City.
“How can one aspire to have the legal security necessary for there to be investment and development in Argentina? The issue of respect for the Constitution and that each power has its attributes and that one may like the sentences or not but they have to respect them. For me, this is the axis of the concerns we have,” added the business leader.
“What we are discussing is whether truly we are respecting the Constitution and the division of powers“He highlighted the controversy.
Regarding the decision of the Court, The national government announced that it will not abide by the ruling and postulated the possibility of requesting the recusal of the members of the body.
“What our country needs is to grow, to have an integrated development, an inclusive development, to expand federally. We have great opportunities ahead of us in different areas. In addition to all this, whatever investor it is or whoever comes to lend, wants to know what the rules of the game are. And the first law of the game is the Constitution. And these signs that we have had in the last hours, beyond the contents, of rising up against the Constitution and the division of powers is not something that helps in any way the development of Argentina, which is what generates employment and is going to lift the country out of the levels of poverty and marginality”.
“Many times we may not like the decisions but we have to abide by them because the law must be respected. More important than payment or non-payment, the point is whether or not I abide by the decisions of Justice. Other issues can be debated. What cannot be debated is whether or not I comply with judicial decisions“.
“The highest institutional aspiration is that an institutional political problem is not created that puts into play that possibility that Argentina finds a way also in the economic sphere. You won’t find an economic path if you don’t find it politically.”
Funes de Rioja’s statements are in line with those of other business organizations, such as IDEA or AmCham, who criticized the decision of the national government.
