Tool to strengthen local food production and marketing

The objective will be to design a comprehensive strategy that contributes to strengthening local food production and consolidating short marketing channels through the development of local markets.

“The participation of the different specialized areas of the national State, provinces, municipalities, the private sector and civil society offers a boost for the integration of regional economies and improvement in food security,” expressed the National Director of the Economic and Social Council of the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs, Patricia Vaca Narvaja.

From the Intersectoral Roundtable for Food Production, Marketing and Supply, proposals will emerge that will help competent jurisdictions and entities to, among other objectives:

  • Update the information on the national food production matrix, defining the supply of products in each of the territories and local and regional demand.
  • Shorten food marketing chains, promoting local markets or short marketing channels.
  • Increase the channels and mechanisms for marketing food, giving priority to producers and consumers of the popular economy.
  • Integrate the formal trade, the regional and community economies, to achieve the autonomous and sustainable development of the communities.
  • Promote associative systems for the integration of supplier agent networks.
  • Develop training at the local level that ensures compliance with the sanitary standards of the food produced.
  • Define variables and indicators, with their respective categories, to achieve a planned governance of the information collected, accessible to all intervening organizations.
  • Design Information and Communication Technology tools, ensuring current regulations regarding the protection of personal and economic-financial data.
  • Establish a single window to meet the demands of the different sectors in terms of documentation, access to programs and credits.

The coordination of the Table will be in charge of the National Directorate of the Economic and Social Council and will have the participation of the Chief of Staff and the Ministries of Economy, Social Development, Interior, Health and Public Works.

Representatives of the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies, INAES, INTA, Senasa and the National Seed Institute will also take part.
