The court said in a broadcast that they were rebuffed by the Constitutional Court (VfGH).
The banks had argued that this was an encroachment on their property and a violation of the principle of equality. Because compared to landlords, who were allowed to reclaim their rents including interest after a three-month deferral period, the banks lost their income from the loans, namely the interest, for ten months.
In the opinion of the Constitutional Court, the contested regulation is in the public interest, and the banks were also supported in other ways. According to bank information, the moratorium came into effect with four to five percent of the loans, which reduced the interest income by 100 million euros.
