The European Central Bank (ECB) had fixed the reference rate on Friday afternoon at 1.0666 (Thursday: 1.0649) dollars. In New York, the euro was trading at $1.0697 around 9 p.m. on Friday. The year began with comparatively low trading volumes on the foreign exchange market. The stock exchanges in the United States and Great Britain have closed. There is also no trading on the leading financial markets in Asia that investors in the foreign exchange market could use as a guide.
In the morning, however, economic data from the euro zone could provide new impetus. The program includes data on the mood of purchasing managers in industrial companies in December. The sentiment indicator is closely watched on the financial markets.
