The study, which is produced by the Department of Economic Studies and Costs of FADEEAC from primary data and a cost structure obtained independently, and audited in its statistical methodology by the Finance Research Center of the Di Tella University, measure 11 items that directly impact the costs of cargo transportation companies across the countryand is a reference to a large extent for setting or adjusting the rates in the sector.

The data arises in a context of continued high retail and wholesale inflation in the economy, although some slowdown is expected in the coming months.

Cargo transportation increases in December

In December there were increases in most of the items, among which stand out fuels (4.6%), lubricants had an increase of less than 2.5%. In insurance once again suffered an increase of 13.54%, while rolling stock and repairs mark notable increases of 10.55% and 7.73%. For his part, tires it increased 1.33% and closed December with a lower rise compared to the behavior it had throughout the year.

The rest of the items (Personnel, Patents and fees), with the exception of financial cost (3.91%), did not undergo changes in relation to November.

Transport cost in the year

Freight transportation costs exceed retail inflation by several points in the course of the year that ended.

The freight and logistics costs face this situation in a framework of high inflation nominality in the argentine economy and for the great increase registered in diesel in the year (121%), in tires (124%) and in the items related to the teams (154%)in general terms.

In the case of gaswhich is the main input in the industry cost structure (represents between 33% and 36% in the medium and long distance in general terms), faces a complex situation in the oil market worldwide.

As in most Western economies, the very high prices of energy and food commodities that linked the end of the pandemic with the war in Ukrainethey took the international barrel from US$80 to US$120, issue that exerted significant pressure on transport and logistics companies worldwide.

The last week of December, Brent was trading at around US$80, a value that implies greater relaxation in international markets.

2022 was marked by a sustained period of shortage of gasoil which, according to specialists, skyrocketed due to “exaggerated consumption” in the border areas due to the low cost of resources in Argentina and the unusual collection by producers.
