Major job cuts at US tech companies

After years of growth, companies are preparing for lean years and are cutting back on staff.

AMAZON

The online retailer wants to cut more than 18,000 jobs. A few months earlier, an insider had spoken of 10,000 jobs. This corresponds to about six percent of the approximately 300,000 employees in administration.

META PLATFORMS

The Facebook parent is cutting jobs for the first time since the company was founded in 2004. The company is suffering from collapsing advertising revenues and billions in losses from its “Reality Labs” division. Almost 700 people have to leave the Uber rival. That is 13 percent of the employees. The driving service agent had previously cut 60 jobs and stopped new hires.

SEAGATE

As part of its austerity program, the memory chip and hard drive provider wants to cut 3,000 jobs. This corresponds to around eight percent of the workforce.

MICRON

The memory chip specialist is shrinking its workforce by ten percent. He is also cutting back on investments because of the bleak industry outlook.

COINBASE

The cryptocurrency exchange announced two job cuts in 2022. A total of almost 1,200 employees or around 20 percent of the workforce fall victim to them.

ROKU

The manufacturer of devices for receiving video streaming services is reducing the workforce by five percent or 200 employees because of “the current economic conditions”.

CISCO

The network equipment supplier has imposed a restructuring program on itself. As part of this, five percent of the jobs could be lost.

HB

According to its own statements, the computer manufacturer is expected to cut 6,000 jobs by 2025.

SALES FORCE

At the SAP rival, every tenth job is eliminated. Based on the number of employees at the end of October 2022, around 8,000 employees have to resign. In addition, some locations are to be closed.
