Energy supply: The Federal Network Agency is somewhat more optimistic about the gas crisis

Last year, the Federal Network Agency spoke of a tense situation with regard to gas supply in Germany. That’s different now. However, the authorities did not give the all-clear.

In the gas crisis, the Federal Network Agency gives the all-clear. As can be seen from the authority’s current situation report, from their point of view a gas shortage this winter is “increasingly unlikely”. Overall, the situation is “less tense than at the beginning of winter”. The authority had previously spoken of a tense situation since mid-June – at that time the throttling of Russian gas supplies had caused a more negative assessment.

Thanks to strong imports and savings in energy consumption, the worry lines have now smoothed somewhat. The authority warned, however, that a deterioration cannot be ruled out. Economical gas consumption remains important.

In the event of a gas shortage, industry and other parts of the economy would no longer get as much gas as they wanted, but only what the state allotted them – companies would then have to cut back their production. There has never been a situation like this in the history of the Federal Republic.
