Economic experts expect inflation to fall worldwide

A global inflation rate of 7.1 percent is expected for 2023, said the Ifo Institute and the Institute for Swiss Economic Policy on Thursday, referring to a survey of economists worldwide. In the coming year, 5.8 percent and 4.5 percent are expected in 2026.

For Western Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, the experts assume inflation rates of a good five percent each, which is noticeably lower than the global average. The expectations for South Asia (23 percent), South America (25 percent), North Africa (32 percent) and East Africa (almost 35 percent) are significantly higher.

“The expectations at the beginning of the year are encouraging because the experts see slightly lower inflation rates compared to the previous quarter,” said ifo researcher Niklas Potrafke. “Nevertheless, inflation remains at a very high level.” According to Ifo, 1,537 experts from 133 countries took part in the survey in December.
