Gasoline and diesel prices are skyrocketing. The price of petrol is not too far removed from its all-time high. The ADAC gives tips on how drivers can save some money.
The gasoline and diesel prices rise and rise. In the current comparison, a liter of Super E10 costs an average of 1.609 euros nationwide over the past week. This means that drivers are now paying 2.8 cents more per liter than in the previous week. The price of diesel saw an even bigger increase: a liter currently costs 1.478 euros. That is 3.4 cents more than last week, as an analysis by the ADAC shows.
The reason for the sharp rise in petrol and diesel prices is the significantly higher crude oil prices. A barrel of Brent crude oil currently costs around 83 US dollars on the world market, an increase of five dollars on the previous week.
Gasoline has not been so expensive for eight years
The price of gasoline is not only more expensive than ever in 2021, it has also almost hit a record high. It was last so expensive in 2013. The gasoline only cost even more on September 13, 2012. At that time, a liter of Super E10 cost 1.709 euros, the highest fuel price ever measured according to ADAC.
On January 1st, a liter of Super E10 had cost 1.324 euros. It was the cheapest day of the year so far. “After only nine months it is foreseeable that the current year will be significantly more expensive than 2020,” said a press release from the ADAC on October 1, 2021.
ADAC recommends conscious refueling
The ADAC advises drivers to check the time and the provider before refueling. According to research, petrol and diesel are usually cheapest between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. In addition, there are sometimes large price differences between the individual providers. The current fuel prices as well as developments and forecasts can be called up online and in tank apps. If you pay attention to this, you can save several euros when refueling.
