Holidays in your own country are trendy: the number of guests continues to grow.
Hotels and pensions have almost reached the pre-crisis level again in terms of guest overnight stays in the holiday month of August.
The number of overnight stays was only 3.1 percent below August 2019, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Friday in Wiesbaden. At 56.1 million, it was also 13.4 percent more than in August 2020.
In times of crisis, vacation in one’s own country is the trend: The number of overnight stays by domestic guests rose by 13.7 percent to 51 million in August this year compared to the same month last year. For holidaymakers from abroad, however, at 5.1 million, despite an increase of 10 percent, it was still 52.7 percent less than in the year before the Corona crisis.
From January through August of the current year, hotels, guest houses, holiday homes, campsites and other accommodations recorded a total of 180.3 million overnight stays. That was 15 percent less than in the same period last year. Because of the corona pandemic, in some federal states an overnight stay ban for private travelers was in place until June. The ban was then relaxed regionally depending on the local pandemic situation.
