The lithium market in Argentina
Argentina produces around 37,000 annual tons of lithium and the exports of this mineral represent almost a third of the country’s total mining exports.
Official estimates indicate that by 2025, Argentina could be in a position to export some 200,000 tons of lithium per year, based on a large number of investments that are being developed in the country, mainly in the northwest.
Consequently, the measure responds to the fact that Economy considers that lithium mining, from its development, has seen significant improvements, both in terms of competitiveness, technology and infrastructure. This is because “the electro mobility it caused a change in the market and that the international scenario had an abrupt growth in the demand for lithium, which produced an exponential increase in the price and, likewise, in the profitability of the projects”.
Faced with such an auspicious panorama for the litiferous industry, the portfolio considers that “a stimulus, such as reimbursement, has fulfilled the objectives for which it was opportunely established.”
