Conflicts: Russia is pumping less gas through Ukraine to Europe

Pipelines through Ukraine are the last remaining direct transport routes for Russian pipeline gas to Europe. But the amounts are getting smaller and smaller.

Russia is sending less and less gas through Ukraine to Europe. According to the state news agency TASS, a daily volume of 25.1 million cubic meters will be pumped through the country, 28 percent less than in the past few days.

The pipelines through Ukraine are the last remaining direct transport routes for pipeline gas to Europe because no more gas flows through the Baltic Sea pipelines Nord StrEam 1 and 2. At the end of September, three of the four tubes of the two double strands in the Baltic Sea were severely damaged by explosions. Russia had previously shut down Nord Stream 1, Nord Stream 2 had never been put into operation. It is still unclear who blew up the pipelines.

Despite the war, Russia continued to pump around 40 million cubic meters a day through Ukraine for months afterwards. At the beginning of this year, however, the amount dropped.

Gazprom accused Ukraine of not letting through the possible amount. Russia also transports liquid gas to Europe and pipeline gas to Turkey, from where Hungary, for example, is supplied. The EU is striving to do without gas from Russia as far as possible.
