Stock exchange in Frankfurt: Dax rally could start again

Company news from the USA could push the Dax rally again this week. The mood on the German stock market had recently clouded over somewhat after the local leading index had started the year par excellence and thus clearly left behind the US stock exchanges. “It ran too hot,” was the tenor on the market.

The German leading index Dax rose over 15,000 points on Friday. At the end there was a daily increase of 0.76 percent to 15,033.56 points. However, the weekly balance was slightly negative for the first time in the still young stock market year.

Profit-taking was unavoidable, wrote the analysts at DZ Bank. Now follows “the moment of truth” as we report on the company’s earnings for the fourth quarter.

After many major banks in the USA had already published their business figures, the reporting season there is now picking up speed. On Wednesday, for example, the aircraft manufacturer Boeing, the software manufacturer Microsoft and the electric car pioneer Tesla reported on the past quarter. In Germany, the pharmaceutical and laboratory supplier Sartorius and the software group SAP, both of which are listed in the Dax, are on the agenda on Thursday.

On Monday, however, Symrise should initially be in the limelight. At the manufacturer of fragrances and flavorings, an impairment on a stake in Sweden eroded profits last year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) including the burden in Sweden fell by a good two percent to 795 million euros. Sales increased significantly thanks to acquisitions and higher sales prices.

Ulrich Kater, chief economist at Dekabank, is meanwhile confident about the near future. The conditions for the stock markets are still better than at the end of 2022. In Germany, for example, the economic expectations of financial experts have recently made a big jump. In addition, more and more hopes grew that the US Federal Reserve in particular could lower its key interest rates again in the second half of the year, according to Kater.
