Alberto Fernández and Lula will meet with businessmen to accelerate bilateral trade

The new international context, with the increased demand for food and energy, configures a scenario of opportunity. Both Lula da Silva and Alberto Fernández are clear about it. just as anticipated Ambit weeks ago, in the next few hours the leaders will be preparing to sign a broad integration agreement that will raise the status of the bilateral relationship. It will include initiatives in various areas: finance, energy, mining, agriculture, defense, knowledge economy, environment, education, health, science and tourism, among others.

One of the main points that will be addressed is the project for a common currency or a payment system in pesos and reais. Always thinking of accelerating bilateral trade. Apart from the greater understanding between states, officials aim to bring companies based in both countries closer together. For this reason, the Brazilian entourage will also be made up of representatives of the private sector, who will come to Argentina to meet with Alberto Fernández, Lula Da Silva himself and representatives of local firms.

“We have to bet a lot on manufactures of industrial origin and we have to increase the number of companies that export,” In a recent interview with this medium, the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the Foreign Ministry, Cecilia Todesca Bocco. In this sense, the relationship with Brazil is relevant: it is the largest buyer of local industrial goods and is one of the first alternatives that appear when a firm wants to start exporting.

Despite the fact that it has been recovering in the last two years, bilateral trade between Argentina and its main partner lost almost 40% of its volume between 2011, when it reached US$40,000 million and 2022, which closed at around US$27,000. The commitment shared by both leaders aims to improve the link to regain part of the lost ground, especially in value-added products.

In this sense, a series of joint projects that could be carried out in the automotive industry, which is one of the pillars of the bilateral relationship, are already being examined. In the Argentine case, it explains more than 25% of imports from Brazil. An important company in the sector with a presence on both sides of the border has plans to accelerate its investments in sustainable mobility. A first step would be hybrid vehicles, to then move towards 100% electric.

At the same time, there are projects that the ambassador Daniel Scioli He discussed with officials and also with the private sector to take advantage of the mining resources that both territories possess. One of the objectives is to install a fertilizer factory, whose international prices are on the rise due to the double crisis of COVID and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This would make it possible to substitute imports, initially, but would also provide the prospect of transforming the plant into an export platform for the region.

These are just two of the ideas that will be discussed in the next few hours. On the energetic level it is clear that the second stage of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline it can completely change the commercial link between both countries and with the rest of the blocks. The opportunities are multiple. The renewed bond puts them back on the table, so that they are not just an expression of desire.
