Fronius tops one billion in sales and is looking for 1,300 new people

The owner-managed family business wants to invest 233 million euros in the expansion of production capacity this year, it reported in a press release on Wednesday. The area of ​​solar energy has grown strongly, but welding and battery charging technology have also increased significantly. In 2023 they are looking for 1,300 new employees.

“Fronius is investing massively in additional production lines and new jobs. We are thus continuing on our successful and sustainable growth course,” said Managing Director Elisabeth Engelbrechtsmüller-Strauß. Last year, 187 million euros were invested in the expansion and conversion of the production sites in Sattledt (district of Wels-Land) and Krumau (Czech Republic). In Sattledt alone, the usable production area was increased from 41,000 m2 to 69,000 m2.

Despite unstable supply chains or a shortage of components, it was possible to ensure supplies and continue to expand production. In 2022, a total of almost 32,000 inverters per month were produced, and by the end of 2023 it should be more than 52,000 per month, which corresponds to an increase of more than 65 percent. This takes into account the high demand on the solar market.

This also requires employees. There were 1,000 new hires in 2022, “by the end of 2023 we are looking for another 1,300 new colleagues, 800 of them in Austria,” explained Engelbrechtsmüller-Strauß.

Fronius was founded in 1945 as a one-man business and now has more than 6,100 employees worldwide, a current export share of 89 percent with 37 international subsidiaries, sales partners in more than 60 countries and 1,366 active patents.
