The carmaker from Munich boasts that its models have become more efficient when it comes to CO2 emissions. There is talk of a reduction to 105 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
BMW reduced the CO2 emissions of its cars sold in Europe by nine percent last year. With the reduction from 116 to 105 grams of CO2 per kilometer, BMW is well below the EU fleet limit of 127 grams, the carmaker announced in Munich.
Gasoline and diesel cars have become more efficient, and the group sold a good 215,000 electric vehicles worldwide last year – twice as many as in the previous year, nine percent of total sales. 95,000 BMW and Mini electric vehicles were registered in the EU, Norway and Iceland.
The EU calculates the CO2 emissions of an e-car as zero grams, even though a good third of the electricity in the EU is generated using gas, coal and oil. This year, BMW wants to increase the proportion of battery cars to 15 percent, and by 2030 half of the newly sold cars will be fully electric.
