The finance ministry of the euro area announced on Saturday that the price acceleration in 2023 is likely to be lower than the 7.1 percent forecast in September. From the second quarter in particular, the rise in prices is likely to weaken significantly, as wholesale gas prices have fallen significantly. In Ireland, annualized inflation fell to 8.2 percent in December after hitting a 38-year high of 9.2 percent two months earlier. The fall in wholesale gas prices indicates that price increases have peaked and are now on the wane, the agency said.
In Germany, too, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck said on Thursday that he was firmly assuming that inflation would continue to fall in Germany.
