The semi-annual increase in the CPE is equivalent to a monthly increase of 6.5% on average. It is expected that, barring no surprises, monthly inflation in the CPE continue at a rate of 6% per month which equals an increase of more than 100% per year.
In current pesos, the CPE is increased $312,000 in relation to June 2022 value and reached a total of $997,000. “That is 85 times the value of $11,787 with which we began the survey in March 2008” affirms Alejandro Rodríguez, Director of the Department of Economics at UCEMA. Measured in free dollars the cost of the CPE is US$2,982.
In which items did you see the greatest increase?
The entertainment chapter was the one that increased the most in the semester with a rise of 58.2%. However, it was one of the items that increased the least in the year. Includes goods and services related to entertainment, culture and tourism.
The clothing category also recorded a variation higher than 53% semester. Housing and basic services were located slightly below 50% while food and drinks climbed 48%.
Below average are the chapters of medical care and health expenses Y education with semi-annual variations of 38% and 42.6%, respectively. The heading less increased in the semester was the transport and comunication which registered an increase 33.5%.
In relation to the second semester of 2022 the chapter that increased the most it was dress with a rise of 115% per year and the one that increased the least was transport and comunication with an annual increase of 73.6%.
