New source of money for Elon Musk: Twitter apparently plans to charge companies $ 1,000 a month so that they can decorate themselves with the golden hook.
The Twitter verification tick saga seems to be entering the next round. After the chaos surrounding paid blue ticks, Elon Musk is now apparently planning to monetize the golden tick. According to US reports, companies should in future pay 1,000 US dollars (equivalent to 920 euros) a month to use the gold hook, which identifies their profile as an official company account.
In addition to the $1,000, companies will be required to pay an additional $50 per month for each individual account associated with the company, the site reports. The portal was able to see internal messages from Twitter, in which the new prices are mentioned. The prices are currently being finalized, but could still change. It is not yet clear when the offer will start. Twitter has not yet officially commented on this.
Gold ticks and tweet boosting
Social media consultant Matt Navarra reported on the payment plans for the golden hook on Friday. Navarra published screenshots on Twitter of messages that Twitter employees are said to have sent to company representatives. In these, the Twitter people are offering “early access” to the verification program for organizations for $1,000 a month plus $50 for each connected account. By participating in the subscription offer, the companies also qualify for “Tweet Boosting”, which increases the reach of company tweets. “Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll send you the payment link,” reads one of the messages.
The golden tick for company accounts has been around since December. It was introduced to distinguish business and other organization accounts from person accounts. Individuals, on the other hand, can buy the blue tick. Elon Musk has been desperate for ways to make money from the company since the $44 billion Twitter takeover.
Twitter Blue wreaked havoc
The move from the previously free blue verification tick to a paid $8-a-month subscription created chaos last fall. Now that anyone could buy a blue tick, fake and fun accounts impersonating celebrities and corporations suddenly swarmed. False company accounts even caused stock market turbulence, even Jesus suddenly had an official account.
With the introduction of the golden tick for verified organizations, Twitter is trying to clear up at least some of the confusion. It is still unclear when the $1,000 subscription will start and whether non-paying organizations that already have the golden hook will lose it again. Elon Musk has not yet commented on this and Twitter has not had an official communications department since the big job cuts.
