Collective bargaining dispute: Union: Post offer “meets all demands”

The collective bargaining round between the Post and Verdi has failed. A smaller union, on the other hand, thinks the offer from the employer’s side is pretty good – but it doesn’t negotiate at all.

With regard to the collective bargaining dispute at Deutsche Post, the DPVKOM trade union made a positive statement about the offer, which Verdi had already rejected. “This is the best offer that the Post has had for years. It meets all of our demands,” said union chairwoman Christina Dahlhaus of “Welt am Sonntag”. Like Verdi, DPVKOM also represents postal workers, but has fewer members. Swiss Post is therefore negotiating with Verdi.

After a three-day marathon of negotiations in Düsseldorf without an agreement, Verdi declared the collective bargaining for the around 160,000 parcel carriers, postmen and other employees of Deutsche Post in Germany to have failed. According to its own statements, the Post had offered an increase in all collective wages and training allowances by a total of 340 euros per month in two stages from the beginning of 2024 – with a term of the collective agreement until the end of 2024.

Verdi has initiated a strike ballot on a labor dispute to enforce collective bargaining demands. There was initially no information on a date for the ballot or for further work stoppages.
