Vegan supermarket: Jan Bredack had the idea – and founded “Veganz”

Winners of Jugend forscht and the German Founders’ Prize tell their stories. This time: Jan Bredack, founder and CEO of Veganz Group AG and finalist in the German Founders’ Prize 2014. The former manager from the automotive industry now relies on oat milk. With success.

When I started building Germany’s first vegan supermarket in 2011, I had no idea about the business. And that was a good thing. Because if I had known what was coming, I might never have gotten involved.

I had changed my diet completely to vegan at the time and found it very difficult to get plant-based foods. In the USA and in other European countries people were already further along at that time. I thought, well, if that doesn’t exist here, then I’ll just build my own market. At the time, the idea was so innovative that it made me a finalist in the German Founder’s Prize.
