The port of Posadas was once again operational after 45 years without commercial activity

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Posadas-Santa Ana Port Administration (Appsa), Ricardo Enrique Babiak, explained to Telam that “The port activity in the province was lost many years ago; Misiones has not had any port activity for more than 40 years, beyond the changes in the type of logistics.”

“We had to reopen all the activity, the province did not have operators, with stevedores, so it is to be born again in this area; the province made a bet on putting the port into operation,” added the official.

“The companies began to take the empty containers in the port of Posadas and they have 5 days to deposit them again and from there we will take them back to Rosario from where they will go back to Montevideo and then go out into the world,” he said.

As to The raw materials that will be transported in this first stage, Babiak specified that they are “forestry, tea and yerba mate, That would be the first ones we are working with because they are the ones who consolidate in their own plants”.

Babiak commented that “there is an immense horizon of business development possibilities, there are wood chips, log wood, which are another type of business that is not via container; we highlight that the large cities were built as a result of the activity of the ports”.

Sources from the Ministry of Industry added that “the containers will contribute to the development of the production and economy of Misiones, since thanks to the Port, much of the merchandise from companies based in the province will be able to make part of their journey by waterway.”
