The concession of the Port of Buenos Aires is extended until 2024

These contracts ended between February and November 2019, and the Ministry decided to extend and unify their conclusion on May 15, 2020.

On the other hand, in 2019 the general specifications for the tender for the new concession were approved, but the following year and with the new government, it was decided to suspend the opening of bids scheduled for March 20, 2020, and instruct the Administration General de Puertos (AGP) to carry out an exhaustive analysis and evaluation of the current and future situation of the Port of Buenos Aires.

Also for the AGP to proceed with the preparation of new bidding rules that “contain a healthy balance between the business that is intended to concession and the conservation of the sources of work on which the National Port Jurisdiction affects.”

In this framework, the validity of the concession contracts for terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 was extended until May 31, 2022.

The current resolution highlighted that “this government management has as its priority objective a National Transportation Plan what includes increase competitiveness in ports to reduce logistics costs and connect the country’s productive regions, advance with investments in port infrastructure, and collaborate in the process of reconfiguration of the Port of Buenos Aires ”.

For its part, the AGP stressed that there was “a recent and significant expansion of its corporate purpose as a result of the granting of the concession of the operation for the maintenance of the signaling system and tasks of dredging, redrawing and hydrological control of the Trunk Waterway ( Paraguay – Paraná Waterway) between kilometer 1,238 of the Paraná River, a point called Confluence, to the Deep Natural Water Zone in the outer Río de la Plata ”.

In this sense, he indicated that this implied “the need to reorganize the available human resources and the general activity of the entity to guarantee the continuity of the navigation of the main waterway and the strategic public interests involved.”

Consequently, “in these terms and in attention to the quality of the services provided by the concessionaires involved, the AGP encourages the extension of the concession contracts for terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Puerto Nuevo Buenos Aires until May 31, 2024 for the purpose of enabling the completion of the preparation of the bidding documentation, the substantiation of the corresponding administrative selective bidding procedure, and the performance of the inventory and transition tasks with those who are awarded “.
