Gas Supply 2022: Imports, Exports, Consumers
Germany is highly dependent: the majority of the gas required in this country comes from imports, as can be seen on the website of the Federal Network Agency. Only a small part comes from domestic production. Norway overtook Russia as the largest supplier in 2022 after gas flow through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline came to a standstill. The next largest suppliers were Belgium, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

The infographic below shows the current level of gas storage in Germany. According to the law, the storage facilities in this country should be 90 percent full by November 1, and the value was increased to 95 percent by regulation at the end of July 2022. This goal was exceeded. However, there are still major differences between the individual systems.

In recent years, the main gas consumers in this country have been industry, which requires almost half of the gas, followed by households and businesses. A steady supply of gas is urgently needed to keep the country running and warm. The graphic below shows where this came from in detail.
