With a decrease of 3.5 percent to a good 212,000 tons in the quantity sold, the organic increase of the recent past was interrupted for the first time, according to current data from AMA Marketing, which was presented on the sidelines of the “Biofach” trade fair in Nuremberg .

In terms of turnover, the trade in organic products recorded further growth, the total sales value (excluding bread and pastries) of organic goods in Austria rose nominally by 3.7 percent compared to 2021 – mainly due to the enormous price hike (plus 7.5 percent for organic -, 11.5 percent for conventional foods).

According to AMA Marketing Manager Christina Mutenthaler, organic food has not yet reached the summit despite the recent drop in consumption. 11.5 percent (2021: 11.3) of retail food sales were organic.
