22 million workers chose part-time positions

According to data from the Department of Labor cited by the Wall Street Journal, last month, 22.1 million Americans chose part-time workor fewer than 35 hours a week, the most in 20 years and nearly six times as many as those who work part-time but would prefer a regular schedule, which is 4.1 million.

In December and January alone, nearly 1 million people voluntarily switched to part-time. Among the reasons for such a choice, in addition to the classic family management and health problems, there is also the desire to spend more time with the family and avoid the so-called “burn-out”the exhaustion of work.

This last trend is one of those considered in the latest study carried out on companies that applied the 4-day work week. There they detected that 71% of the 2,900 workers involved declared having reduced their levels of job exhaustion. They also found a reduction in resignations and sick leave, and improved sleep quality and balance with family life.
