On October 16, World Food Day is celebrated, proclaimed in 1979 by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in order to promote solidarity actions in favor of the fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
Producers of family agriculture, indigenous peasant farmers and artisanal fishing produce more than 33% of the world’s food, and the world’s agri-food systems currently employ 1 billion people, more than any other sector.
In this framework, producers and institutions will hold the Federal Meeting of Family, Peasant and Indigenous Agriculture and Artisanal Fishing in Tecnópolis, in which more than 1,500 producers from the five regions of our country will participate: NOA, NEA, Cuyo, Center and Patagonia.
Likewise, there will be a fair with more than 200 stalls with products from all regions of the country, exchange of seeds, delivery of seedlings and cultural and recreational activities for those who visit the property.
“Food sovereignty is the right of peoples to decide on their way of producing food, taking into account territories, cultures, their own seeds;
guaranteeing healthy, varied and accessible food in local markets; and taking care of mother earth, “said the Agrarian Branch of the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP).
The organization indicated that “this intervention implies another step to continue becoming aware of how strategic it is, for all the people, not only to decide what to produce and how, but also that natural goods and the means of production are in the hands of those who produce food. That the land, rivers and sea have a social function and are not hostages of the multinational agro-exporters. “
The institutions that work with the sector will also be present: INTA, Senasa, Inase, FAO, IICA, Inaes and provincial governments, with informative materials for both producers and those attending the event.
Thematic talks will be held on World Food Day, recreation activities for boys and girls, open radio and cultural activities.
