In 2022 there were an annual average of 31,292 vacancies in Upper Austria, compared to 28,740 unemployed. In order to counteract this overhang in vacancies, “no means should be left unused,” says oö. Chamber of Commerce President Doris Hummer.
At the Job Week organized by the Chamber of Commerce, which takes place from March 20th to 25th this year, companies will provide an insight into more than 1300 events. According to Hummer, the companies have also come up with “creative and interesting” formats for the second edition of the format. Among other things, there is a baking workshop, a Tinsmith Olympics and a programming competition.
“Nowadays, companies are not only in competition for customers, but also for employees,” says WKOÖ director Gerald Silberhumer. At Job Week, companies want to appeal to people of all ages – “regardless of whether you are an apprentice or a returnee”.
The AMS Oberösterreich and the Bildungsdirektion Oberösterreich also support the format, which is taking place for the second time this year. “From our point of view, everyone wins with such an initiative,” says AMS country manager Gerhard Straßer. The AMS tries in particular to organize taster days in companies for interested parties. “57 percent of these taster days end in a longer employment relationship,” says Straßer.
Cooperation with vocational schools is new this year. “Pupils often don’t know which companies in their region are suitable for them,” says Robert Oberfrank, Project Manager of the Job Week. Information material is intended to give future graduates an overview.
Registration is possible up to two days before the start at www.jobweek.at.
