This video entitled “Inflation in Germany 2023” went viral on the Tiktok video platform. It shows the price increases of food in comparison.
Food influencer Gamze Vural shares the video on her Platter.world account, where she usually shows how to prepare food platters. More than four million users have already viewed the 31-year-old’s video.
When asked by stern, the influencer says that she did not shoot some recordings at the beginning of 2022, but actually at the end of 2021. The reason was a series of videos in which she shows her followers how to put together a record for less than ten euros.
At the end of the video, the price difference becomes clear again: A plate with fries and colorful toast slices, which cost 8.21 euros in total in 2022, is now 15.87 euros.
“The price differences leave me speechless,” says the influencer to the star.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, food prices rose by 20.2 percent in January 2023 compared to the previous year. For comparison: between 2000 and 2019, the average annual increase was just under 1.5 percent, reports the consumer advice center.
Gamze’s video caused numerous reactions from users.
“Most of the comments criticize politics and unfortunately many let out their frustration because they are simply afraid that they will not be able to cope with these enormous price increases,” says Gamze to the star.
Since the food influencer often makes bulk purchases, she also notices the enormous price differences. She is now trying to share recipes and plates with fewer products with her community. She can’t continue her video series “Records for under 10 euros” at the moment.
