Metallurgical costs increased almost 5% in January

The Metallurgical Cost Index (ICM) prepared by Adimra accumulates a year-on-year increase of 101.5% compared to January 2022.

He Metallurgical Cost Index (ICM) of the Association of Metallurgical Industrialists of the Argentine Republic (ADIMRA) registered a increase of 4.7% during January 2023 and accumulates a year-on-year increase of 101.5% compared to January 2022.

Although it registered a lower monthly increase than the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the ICM remains above inflation because during 2022 the CPI accumulated an increase of 94.8%, while the ICM registered a rise of 98.1%, widening the gap between costs and prices.

The largest increases within the metallurgical cost structure occurred in the price of inputs. According to the INDEC producer price index (IPP), Non-ferrous basic supplies registered an increase of 6.4%. While basic ferrous supplies increased 5.0% in January 2023 compared to December 2022.

Among the main metallurgical items, the greatest increases in costs occurred in the Electrical equipment and appliances sector (5.2%), as a result of the sharp increase in the price of electrical conductors (+9.9%), Agricultural machinery (+9.9%), 5.2%) and Bodywork and trailers (5.1%).
