Kocher takes a positive view of the task force set up in mid-January by the regulatory authority E-Control and the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) to examine the price situation on the electricity and gas markets. The minister explained the sharp increase in food prices in Austria in the previous month by 16.5 percent year-on-year with “catch-up effects that were energy-driven”. In any case, the BWB is observing the suppliers and the entire food industry closely.
The BWB has been headed by Natalie Harsdorf-Borsch on an interim basis for the past 15 months, as the coalition parties ÖVP and the Greens have not been able to agree on a single person. Nevertheless, the BWB works “completely”, according to Kocher. There are no restrictions on business activities.
