The BCRA and Conicet signed an agreement to develop research projects

During the event, which was held at the headquarters of the BCRA, Pesce highlighted the importance of the agreement, which allows promoting research in areas of interest to the institution. “The Central Bank has a commitment to scientific research since its creation; we have a magazine of economic essays that is already traditional, we have the Conference on economic, monetary and banking issues that is also a tradition in the region,” said Pesce.

At the same time, he considered that With the agreement, “what we are seeking is to integrate the Central Bank into the scientific technological apparatus of the State, guiding the research elements and financing those issues that are of interest to the Central Bank itself.”

For its part, Franchi appreciated the opportunities offered by this agreement since it allows them to “finance research groups on specific topics within economics, a fairly vacant area within CONICET, and this will also allow us to advance in future agreements to strengthen the research groups that we have.”

Who was also present at the signing of the agreement was the BCRA’s Deputy General Manager of Economic Research, Germán Feldman. The official will be in charge, by the Bank, of the development of this agreement. In addition, the director of Scientific and Technological Development of CONICET, Liliana Sacco, also participated.

What the agreement establishes

In the first instance, the agreement promotes the realization of a preliminary call for Ideas-Project. This will be prepared based on the areas and lines of investigation that are established, linked to the purpose and functions of the Central Bank.

As detailed by the BCRA, in the coming days the conditions of the call will be disseminated through the BCRA website. A posteriori, the definitive presentation of projects will continue. According to the explicit, the same will last for two years.

The agreement also establishes the creation of an Ad Hoc Commission, which will be made up of members proposed by the BCRA and CONICET. The representation will be federal and under gender equality.

The Commission will be in charge of analyzing the projects, as well as monitoring their development. The results of the research projects will be published in the BCRA’s Economic Essays Magazine, in addition to being published in other journals of scientific interest. The financing of the projects will be carried out by the BCRA and the administration will be in charge of CONICET, through the INNOVA-T Foundation.
