“We are definitely in a good market situation,” said Felix Montecuccoli, President of “Land- und Forstbetriebe Österreich”. The situation is challenging because of climate change. The forest can “buffer some of it, but not all”.

A cubic meter of spruce saw logs cost EUR 112.8 in the previous year, after EUR 100.5 in 2021. The price of firewood rose from EUR 94 to EUR 155 per cubic meter. The estimated timber harvest in 2022 was 19.5 million cubic meters, five percent more than 2021.
