For many people, chocolate bunnies are part of Easter. This year, the industry produced slightly fewer copies.
The German confectionery industry produced around 230 million chocolate Easter bunnies for Easter this year, fewer than last year. This was reported on Friday by the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry (BDSI) based on a survey of its member companies. Last year, the industry still produced 239 million chocolate bunnies. The BDSI initially did not give a reason for the decline.
The classic Easter bunny made from milk chocolate is still the most popular. Easter bunnies made of bittersweet or white chocolate are also trendy, as are decorative figures – for example little lambs, carrots or chicks made of chocolate.
According to the association, almost half of the chocolate bunnies, i.e. around 108 million pieces, are eaten in Germany. Around 122 million of the chocolate bunnies produced in Germany go abroad, mainly to the European partner countries, but also to the USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
