Construction fell 6.3% in February after starting the year on the rise

In turn, the seasonally adjusted series index showed a negative variation of 2.7% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index lost 0.3% for the same comparison.

In February, the synthetic indicator of construction activity (ISAC) fell 6.3% compared to the same month in 2022. On the other hand, in the accumulated index of the first two months of 2023, the original series index shows a loss of 1.9% compared to the same period of 2022.

At the same time, the seasonally adjusted series index showed a negative variation of 2.7% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index lost 0.3% for the same comparison.

The data on the apparent consumption of inputs for construction in February 2023 showed, in relation to the same month of the previous year, increases of 16.2% in the rest of the inputs (includes faucets, seamless steel tubes, and building glass); 11.2% in granite and calcareous mosaics; 7% in round iron and steel for construction; 4.2% in finished concrete and 2.2% in asphalt.

On the other hand, there were drops of up to 28.1% in ceramic floors and coverings; 23.1% in ceramic sanitary ware; 19.0% in hollow bricks; 18.3% in construction paints; 16.2% in plaster; 12.5% ​​in limes; 7.5% in plasterboard and 4.5% in portland cement.

If the accumulated variations are analyzed during the first two months of 2023 as a whole, in relation to the same period of the previous year, there were increases of 16% in the rest of the inputs (includes taps, seamless steel tubes and glass for construction ); 14.3% in finished concrete; 10.8% in granite and calcareous mosaics.

The list continues with: 4.8% in round iron and steel for construction; 4.7% in asphalt; 2.1% in portland cement and 1.7% in plasterboard. On the contrary, negative variations of 27.1% are observed in ceramic floors and coverings; 22.0% in ceramic sanitary ware; 16.3% in hollow bricks; 10.6% in limes; 6.9% in construction paints and 2.6% in plaster.
