Industry fell 1.4% in February but accumulated a 2.5% advance in the two-month period

In February, the industrial manufacturing production index fell 1.4% compared to the same month in 2022. The accumulated index for the first two months of 2023, however, shows an increase of 2.5% year-on-year.

The manufacturing industrial production index fell 1.4% in February compared to the same month in 2022. However, accumulated in the first two months of 2023advanced 2.5% year-on-year, as reported by INDEC on Wednesday, April 5.

In turn, the seasonally adjusted series index showed a negative variation of 1.3% compared to the previous month and the trend-cycle series index registered a negative variation of 0.1% compared to January.

In February, eight of the sixteen divisions of the manufacturing industry presented year-on-year falls. In order of its incidence at the general level, this was its performance: “Food and beverages”, -6.2%; “Chemical substances and products”, -6.4%; “Wood, paper, publishing and printing”, 4.8%; “Machinery and equipment”, -1.8%; “Rubber and plastic products”, -1.4%; “Tobacco products”, -8.7%; “Other equipment, apparatus and instruments”, -0.5%; and “Textile products”, -0.2%.

For their part, the “Oil refining, coke and nuclear fuel” divisions showed increases, +22.8%; “Automotive vehicles, bodies, trailers and auto parts”, +8.5%; “Clothing, leather and footwear”, +8.8%; “Furniture and mattresses, and other manufacturing industries”, +5.5%; “Non-metallic mineral products”, +2.9%; “Metal products”, +3.6%; “Basic metal industries”, +0.7%; and “Other transport equipment”, +8.4%.
