Stock exchange in Frankfurt: gains in quiet stock trading before Easter

The Dax increased on the last day of the shortened trading week before Easter. Trading on Maundy Thursday was calm. In the afternoon, the leading German index gained 0.31 percent to 15,567.71 points. Two days ago it had reached 15,736 points, its highest level since January 2022.

The MDax for medium-sized stocks rose by 0.63 percent to 27,140.39 points. The Eurozone leading index EuroStoxx 50 rose by 0.2 percent.

In contrast to the German economic data, US economic data had recently been disappointing, which dampened interest rate hike expectations of the Fed. The focus is now on the US government’s official labor market report on Good Friday, to which the markets can only react after Easter.

On the company side, Gerresheimer was the focus of attention on the German market with quarterly figures. Strong demand for plastic packaging, inhalers and medication ampoules made of special glass drove the start of the year. Group is maintaining its strong growth momentum, a trader said. However, experts criticized the weak free cash flow. The shares lost 5.8 percent as the MDax tail light.

Symrise won around two and a half percent among the favorites in the Dax after a positive study by JPMorgan. A turnaround in earnings is in sight for flavor manufacturers, it said.

The euro moved little. The European common currency was trading at $1.0908 in the afternoon session. The European Central Bank (ECB) last set the reference rate at $1.0940 on Wednesday.

On the bond market, the current yield fell from 2.30 percent on the previous day to 2.14 percent. The Rex pension index rose by 0.57 percent to 127.05 points. The Bund future gained 0.52 percent to 137.83 points.
