The number of single-tax workers continues to grow strongly in Argentina, according to an official study.

Salaried employment grew both in the private sector (+17.4 thousand) and in the public sector (+8.8 thousand). And employment in private homes presented a reduction of 0.7% (3.3 thousand fewer people). Independent work decreased by 2.7 thousand workers in relation to the previous month.

“This fall is mainly explained as a consequence of the contraction in the number of workers attached to the social monotributo (-0.5%, -3,000 fewer people). Work in the autonomous regime presented a variation of -0.3 % (- 1,300 fewer people). For its part, the increase in the number of workers included in the Monotributo (+0.1%, 1.6 thousand more people) could not compensate for the reductions in employment observed in the other categories of self-employment”, the report stated.

In the interannual international comparison, salaried employment expanded 3.2% (+313.3 thousand workers), mainly in the private sector (+4.3%, 261.2 thousand people) and, in second order, to growth from the public sector (+1.8%, 61.3 thousand more jobs).

Work in private homes presented a fall of 2% in relation to the same month of the previous year (9.3 thousand fewer workers).

“In year-on-year terms, there were 12 sectors that showed positive variations. Among them, the best performers were: Hotels and restaurants (+17.4%); Construction (+13.8%) Mining and quarrying (+8 0%), and Commerce and repairs (+5.8%).In contrast, the sectors of Financial intermediation and Agriculture, livestock and forestry have shown a drop in the number of workers they employ (-0.5% and -1 4%, respectively)”, he specified.

In January, with year-on-year inflation of 98.8%, the average gross nominal remuneration was $241,966 and grew 97.5% in relation to the same month of the previous year.

For their part, half of the workers received up to $171,197, an interannual increase of 91.3%. From this it can be deduced that the lowest wage earners had a loss of 3.8% versus inflation.
